Call for Abstracts
Engineering below the surface: Technical resilience, adaptive reuse, and futureproofing subterranean infrastructure
We are seeking visionary engineers, designers, and innovators to submit ground breaking ideas that push the boundaries of underground engineering. This Call for Innovation invites submissions that demonstrate creativity, technical excellence, and future-focused solutions in the design, construction, and reuse of deep basements and subterranean infrastructure.
Topics of interest can include but are not limited to:
- Adaptive reuse and repurposing: Innovative approaches to transforming existing underground spaces into energy hubs, data centres, or multi-use facilities.
- Sustainable and resilient engineering: Techniques and technologies that improve environmental performance, reduce carbon footprint, and enhance infrastructure resilience.
- Digital and monitoring innovation: Novel applications of digital twins, real-time monitoring, and data-driven design feedback loops to improve construction safety and performance.
- Futureproofing underground infrastructure: Concepts addressing long-term challenges, including climate adaptation, urban densification, and integrated subterranean networks.
Call for abstracts entry form
We are seeking visionary engineers, designers, and innovators to submit groundbreaking ideas that push the boundaries of underground engineering. This Call for Innovation invites submissions that demonstrate creativity, technical excellence, and future-focused solutions in the design, construction, and reuse of deep basements and subterranean infrastructure.
Submission Guidelines:
Submissions should include a brief description of your idea (up to 500 words) and any supporting visuals (JPEG or PNG, at least 1MB).
Selected innovations will be showcased during the event at GE Basements and Underground Structures – 18th Edition in London on 24th March 2026
Presenters will gain exposure to leading practitioners, policymakers, and industry experts, with opportunities for networking and collaboration.
Evaluation Criteria:
Innovation:
Does your idea challenge conventional approaches or provide a fresh perspective?
Impact:
What measurable improvements to underground engineering, sustainability, or resilience does it offer?
Feasibility and Scalability:
Can the concept be implemented practically and adapted to broader projects?
Future Orientation:
Does the solution anticipate the challenges and opportunities of 2050 and beyond?
