Socotec , instrumentation & monitoring director
Jon has over 30 years of experience with instrumentation and monitoring work on civil engineering projects all over the world. He joined Soil Instruments (SIL) in 1981 where his work included installation work on the M25 London orbital motorway, A55 in North Wales and Megget Dam in Scotland. In 1982 he moved to Hong Kong to set up an office for SIL to service the work on the MTR Island line and other projects in the territory. In 1987 he joined Slope Indicator as their European Sales Manager. He was responsible for establishing an in-house drilling operation and in 1989 successfully won the contract for the instrumentation of the Limehouse Link in London, which he supervised. Following the inclusion of Slope Indicator by Boart Longyear (BL), Jon grew the UK business, working on London’s Jubilee Line extension and Heathrow Express Rail Link, and eventually he became European Regional Director. In 1999 Jon took the job as Managing Director of Instrumentation Testing & Monitoring (ITM) Ltd., following a management buyout of BL’s UK instrumentation business. ITM and SIL were the main monitoring contractors for the Channel Tunnel Rail Link project. In 2002 ITM concluded the takeover of SIL and the itmsoil group was formed.
Following the sale of Soil Instruments in 2014, Jon remained with ITM as Managing Director. At the beginning of 2018, Jon was instrumental in the sale of ITM to SOCOTEC UK and continues to lead the ITM business under the umbrella of SOCOTEC UK.
